FAQs

Why Choose Kindred?

Dr. Delabar’s training methods are grounded in years of experience, a deep understanding of canine behavior, and a strong belief in science-backed positive reinforcement. Dr. Delabar is personally involved in every session, ensuring a level of consistency and expertise that sets us apart.

Is positive reinforcement effective for all dogs?

Yes! Positive reinforcement is a proven and effective method for dogs of all temperaments and ages. By focusing on rewarding good behavior, your dog is more likely to repeat those behaviors, leading to lasting change.

What should I do if my dog doesn’t seem to be responding to training?

Training progress varies for each dog. If your dog isn’t responding right away, Dr. Delabar will adjust the training approach and provide additional support. It’s important to remain patient, consistent, and engaged in the process.

Why are 20-30 minute training sessions better than hour-long ones?

Dogs have short attention spans and learn best in small, focused sessions. Training for too long can lead to mental fatigue, boredom, and frustration. Shorter sessions keep your dog engaged, making learning fun and effective while preventing burnout.

How can I make the most of a short training session?

Keep it fun and rewarding! Use high-value treats, toys, or praise, and focus on just one or two skills at a time. Training multiple times a day in short bursts, rather than one long session, helps reinforce learning and keeps your dog excited to train!

Do you offer training for puppies and adult dogs?

Yes! We can help you train both puppies and adult dogs. Early training is crucial for puppies, but we also work with adult dogs to address behavior concerns and teach valuable life skills. Each session is adapted to your dog’s age and developmental stage.

How long does it take to see results?

The timeline for seeing results depends on your dog’s individual temperament and the specific training goals. Most dogs show progress within the first few sessions, but long-term success requires consistency and practice. Dr. Delabar will work with you to track your dog’s progress and make adjustments as needed.

What if my dog has more challenging behavior, like aggression or fear-based issues?

We understand that some dogs have more complex behavioral needs, such as aggression or fear-related issues. For dogs with these challenges, we offer specialized behavior consultations. These consultations are designed to assess your dog’s specific needs, identify underlying causes, and develop a tailored plan to address the behavior in a positive, safe, and effective manner. Behavior modifications and training will be included. Learn more about our behavior consultations here.

Do you offer training sessions for cats?

Yes! We can help with carrier training for less stressful veterinary visits or traveling, as well as cooperative care. Teaching your cat how to take medication early can be incredible useful, especially for their older years.
